Dept: Live Local Georgia

Festival to Raise Area Awareness of Sustainable Choices
HotoberFest, a new festival for the Atlanta area, will focus on raising awareness of the importance of living a more sustainable life every day in order to protect Planet Earth. Participants will be able to obtain information from sustainable area organizations, like Trees Atlanta and Georgia Organics, as well as speak with area green builders, architects and alternative energy producers, all while enjoying local music and sampling beers from breweries chosen for their sustainable practices and organic ingredients. The festival will be held in Atlanta’s Glenwood Park neighborhood on Saturday, October 4. Access to music and information booths is free of charge, with a donation for beer and food purchases going to nonprofit sponsors. There will be a charge for the Beer Garten, and VIP Green Tickets are available. For more information, visit www.hotoberfest.net.

SouthEast Farm to School Meet-Up
The Southeast Region Farm to School Conference was recently held in Asheville, NC. Members of farm to school programs from Georgia joined participants from Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida to discuss the importance of connecting children with their food sources by getting local food into cafeterias and encouraging farm field trips, experiential nutrition education and school gardens. “I learned that there is a strong farm to school movement and found support in numbers,” said one attendee. The Conference was sponsored by Western North Carolina-based Growing Minds, the farm to school project of the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP).
